Misunderstanding Dialogue aka "Quiproquos"

A Quiproquo is when two characters discuss two different topics without them knowing. The idea of creating misunderstanding is essential for comedy due to dramatic irony. The humour comes from the anticipation and suspense from the audience when they already know what's going on or they know more information than the characters and you simply cannot wait till everything is unravelled in the most chaotic way possible!

I believe where you can find the "mother" of all Quiproquos that I believe is in a BBC Irish comedy sitcom, Mrs. Brown's Boys. Now this show has a ton of misunderstanding and confusion which creates comedy. There is an episode where the family have a discussion on giving up their old, feeble dog and putting it in a home, however Mrs. Brown overhears them but thinks they are all thinking of putting HER in a home. The scene where her daughter breaks the news to her is comedy GOLD. You can watch that bit in the video where it's at 21:06 and ends on 22:44.

My was assigned to write a Quiproquo or a Misunderstanding dialogue scene. I considered this a challenge. It was fun to research but really hard to come up with your own. I used this video as inspiration.

My dialogue is about two people on a first date: a vet and an animal lover. One of them rants on about "Quacks" which is a term used for people who dishonestly claim themselves as Doctors or their an expert in a field, whereas the animal lover thinks he's talking about Ducks.

This is not my best idea but it's simple and it is a perfect example confusion and misunderstanding between two characters. I sincerely hope that it is good enough.

So I am surprised that there was a term given to form of dialogue which is "Quiproquo". It makes me remember or focus more on the way things are written in sitcoms and its elements in which create comedy. That is what I find more intelligent than people may think it is.
